UND Practice Areas
UND Aerospace has 20 designated practice areas and 12 airports
in the outlying area for student practice. Practice areas are assigned
by the Supervisor of Flight who limits the number of aircraft in each
area.
UND has also developed specific departure and arrival procedures for each
practice area. Air to air frequencies are assigned to the practice
areas allowing pilots to keep each other informed of their specific aircraft positions throughout each flight.
Radar service is provided to UND aircraft by Grand Forks Air Force Base RAPCON. RAPCON also controls UND instrument training, with 21 different instrument
approaches located in the Grand Forks area.
